Half Moon Bay Winery’s 2013 Sangiovese from Redwood Valley
This Year's Pumpkin Festival-Label Wine
Most people who attend the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, October 13-14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on historic Main Street, look forward to the famous coastal food as much as the world-class art and fabulous entertainment.
Rounding out the experience, festivalgoers will also have the opportunity to sip and savor exceptional wine, as Half Moon Bay Winery returns as the festival’s official wine sponsor.
Half Moon Bay Winery's 2013 Sangiovese from Redwood Valley is this year's Pumpkin Festival label wine. Honoring the 48th year of the festival, this warm, generous and high quality Sangiovese is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 8% Petite Sirah, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Syrah and 1% Viognier. This vibrant Sangiovese is redolent of wild black cherry and hints of licorice and plums, making it perfect to enjoy with friends and family, and excellent with BBQ and Roast Pork.
On the white side, the festival will feature Half Moon Bay Winery's Coastal Fog White. This award-winning wine is a Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier blend from Redwood Valley, Mendocino. Blending in a dash of Viognier imparts a distinctive peach-kernel-and-lychee-fruit nose to the crisp, exuberant pink-grapefruit essence of the Sauvignon Blanc resulting in a succulent and mouthwatering wine. It pairs wonderfully with Dungeness crab, salmon, pastas, poultry, cheeses, and vegetarian entrées.
Both wines will be available by the glass at two booths hosted by the Half Moon Bay Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau.
The Pumpkin Festival-label Sangiovese will also be available by the bottle (to take home) at the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee’s Pumpkin Festival merchandise booth.
Half Moon Bay Winery is owned by Joe Cotchett, a longtime Main Street preservationist. “In creating the Half Moon Bay Winery label, we’ve taken the opportunity to make wines that complement the coast’s signature produce and seafood,” says Joe Cotchett. “Visitors will be able to enjoy pairing coastside wine and food while strolling at the festival.”
The winery’s current releases are two red wines and two white wines with newly designed labels: Fisherman’s Red; Sangiovese ‘Noir’; Coastal Fog White; and Mavericks Sauvignon Blanc.
Half Moon Bay Winery uses grapes from well-established vines grown on California’s North Coast. The wines are available at various coastside retail and restaurant locations: A Grape in the Fog; Cameron’s Inn, Pub & Restaurant; Chez Shea; Coastside Market; Cunha’s Country Grocery Store; Half Moon Bay Fish Market; Half Moon Bay Wine and Cheese; New Leaf Community Market; Norm’s Market; and Sushi Main Street.
